été menée avec mon frère Bernard VAGNE (BV) et Karim OUCHIKH (KO) et
deux invitées exceptionnelles (et un peu forcés : ma femme (HV) et la
compagne de BV (VdS) (tous quatre étaient
"en aveugle"). Les commentaires sont de TV. On n'a
malheureusement pas retrouvé Walter qui nous avait fait grande impression
il y a quelques années. (01/08/2001) This comparative listening was held with my wife (HV) my brother (BV), his friend (VdS) and my step-brother (KO). I was playing the records. We just missed Walter and I almost bought a bargain disc by Arpaad JO, an impressive conductor, if I recall well some Liszt pieces by him (08/01/2001). |

Kubelik en concert émerge du lot, je vérifierai s'il s'agit du même concert que celui publié depuis par Audite, cette version-ci étant dorénavant introuvable - Une mention pour l'enregistrement de Markevitch : un chef qu'on n'attendait pas a priori à ce niveau dans ce répertoire. Kubelik live is really the best version - A special mention to Markevitch. Boulez is splendid, but I do not consider him as a Malherian, neither Bernstein, even if they rank among the best interpreters (as Karajan, despite wonderful moments in his "Song of the Earth" version...) It is a pity we did not get the Walter recording : quoted by "Gramophon", this is what said Deryck Cooke when the Kubelik DG was just issued, which confirms what I have always thought : ... in 1968, Deryck Cooke observed that Rafael Kubelik was “essentially a poetic conductor and he gets more poetry out of this symphony than any of the other conductors who have recorded it”. Bruno Walter was, he felt, Kubelik’s only rival in this regard and he was much taken with the “natural delicacy and purity” of the interpretation... |
